So Delainey no longer "believes" in Santa. Again, the end of a stage - just like the end of the princess stage that I blogged on. My big girl is growing up :(
We went shopping for Eli and Cait's little sibling gifts for them to open at Delainey's party. Eli wanted this Omnitrex thingy but it was more than we spend on the sibling gift. Our conversation on the way home:
D - "Well Eli can ask for that for his birthday."
Me - "Well, actually he can put that on his Christmas list" - his b'day is in January.
D -"Maybe he can ask for the Omnitrex from Santa."
Me - "That would be a great gift from Santa" - knowing that it is only $20 :)
D - "Mommy, who is Santa?"
Me - "Who do you think he is?" (my typical answer)
D - "I don't know"
Me - "Well, what do you think?"
D - "I don't know if he is make believe or real"
think, think, think......well guess it's time to let the cat out of the bag....
Me - "Do you want me to tell you a big secret? But you can't tell your friends, Bubby or Sissy!"
D - "Yeah"
dramatic pause
Me - "Santa is Mommy and Daddy"
silence
Me - "Is that what you thought?"
D - "I don't know"
Me - "Did you kind of think that it was Mommy and Daddy?"
D - "Kind of"
Me - "And honey, Mommy and Daddy are the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy"
D - little giggle
she's thinking.....
D - "Mommy, so what do the parent's do with the teeth?"
hahahahahahaha....my daughter.
So we made a deal that now since she knows "the big secret" that on Christmas and Easter, she can either stay up after the little kids go to bed and help Mommy and Daddy play Santa or she can just go to bed and be surprised. She will love this though - playing like she doesn't know. Especially when Cait gets old enough to know about such things.
So the santabunnyfairy is out of the bag!!!! :(
